Here are some of the wild horses at Carrot Island, which is the Rachel Carson Wildlife Reserve in Beauford, NC. The Herd stands around a lot of the day, staying cool and keeping the flies away. We watched the herd just hanging at the water hole, sleeping most of the time, hence horses with their eyes closed. Then once in a while someone would wake up and run around only to go back to sleep. Luckily on our last day we got them in the Marsh with the nigh back lighting behind them as the sun set.
