This morning we again awoke at 5am and headed out on the boat with Jared in hopes of seeing Wavelength and the harem all back together again. It had been an incredible week here in Beaufort, NC with Jared Lloyd, Wildlife Photographer. It felt like we were walking back through our experiences of the week as we all prepared to return to our homes the next day. First we headed out to the usual spot we first saw Wavelength and his harem. On this day, Wavelength was there alone and it broke our hearts. He seemed so beaten, still lame, still skinny and looking so lonely or maybe we were just projecting our human emotions onto him. He seemed to be reaching out to us, you could see it in his eyes just as we had seen it on Wednesday when he and Cyclops were in battle. We left Wavelength alone to heal his wounds and took sometime to explore the area around us. He is an amazing stallion, so beautiful and so full of history.
As we took off from Carrot Island we began to explore Shakleford Banks. Jared told us about how Blackbeard's pirate ship, The Queen Anne's Revenge was being excavated off Shakleford Banks. We learned much about the history of the area, environmental issues and wildlife. While cruising along in the boat we saw Portuguese Man o War, dolphins and a Bull Shark, well Jared saw that while we were all in the water - YIKES!! Wow such an incredibly rich and beautiful area!
